Designed to increase accessibility to multimodal media such as comics, maps, and art for blind and low-vision readers, Vizling provides an inclusive approach. This innovative app offers an intuitive user interface that integrates haptics with structured exploratory reading modes. With Vizling, users can engage with graphic narratives using three touch-sensitive reading modes:
- Global Narration (audio book version)
- Panel-to-Panel Narration
- Free Exploration Narration
Vizling was created at Wichita State University with support from the NEH and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. It was recognized as one of the winners of the Accessible Comics Design Competition, a prestigious event held by The Paul K. Longmore Institute on Disability in partnership with Comic Studies and the Program in Visual Impairments at San Francisco State University.
